FUEL PIGEONS TO FIRST "W" OF A LONG SEASON |

With two games remaining in the regular season, the Dirty
Pigeons were running out of opportunities to post their first win of the session. The proud franchise has been less that lucky but the St. Patty's Day celebration started early for the Birds. Led by the high scoring Chad Burger, Billy Robinson, and Brian Howe, the Dirty Birds were able to comeback from an early two goal deficit to beat the Blue Wingz, 8 - 7.
Matt DeMartino was on fire for the Blue Wingz as he posted five
goals while his brother, Tim DeMartino, had the other two. Chad Burger, who has been one of the top B League in goal scorers all season, kept pace. Burger would not be outdone as he scored four times and added a helper for his squad. Brian Howe kept a hot stick as he scored twice for the Birds to keep them in the game early.
Late heroics by Jeff Farenga in net and Billy Robinson on the rink
sealed the deal for the Birds. After relinquishing a two goal advantage, Farenga shored up the net for the Birds. Billy Robinson, who had a goal and two assists through the first 43 minutes of the contest, buried the game winner with 54 ticks on the clock.
Brian Miller added two assists while Matt Sheads had a helper.

PIGEONS REBOUND WITH PLAYOFF SEALING WIN
AGAINST THE WARLOCKS |
|
March 8, 2010

|
The Pigeons bench was once again short last night. Healthy scratches of
Matt Sheads and Brian Howe didn't help with the fact that Kyle Burger has an undisclosed injury and did not dress leaving the Pigeons with just five starters. Calling on the gods of hockey to help guide them it seemed that the Warlocks were the team pushing the puck early. The Warlocks put the puck in the twine early on a bad bounce. Then five minutes later a shot going wide from the right circle hit one of the Warlocks positioned at the top of the crease and caromed off of his shoulder, then shin guard to give the Warlocks a 2-0 lead.
Espo "The Wall" had told the boys in the locker room that if they got the
lead he would hold it. So, after sporting the Warlocks a 2-0 lead the Pigeons went to work. Nate Voss took a pass off a face off and slipped it up the boards to a gliding Clowney. Clowney took the puck and cut in towards the Goalie and slipped it past (Tom) to cut the lead 2-1. Continuing to put the pressure on Clowney stole the puck on the left side, traveled behind the net and found an open Bernier who buried a one-timer to bring the Pigeons even. The Pigeons went down a man at the end of the first when Clowney took an interference call. The Pigeons special teams were all over the penalty kill not allowing a single shot on the Warlocks powerplay. Both teams traded control of the puck in the second half for extended periods before Voss broke the tie with one of his patented wristers in what seemed destined to be the big goal of the game. Holding the lead for the rest of the second period the Pigeons clamped down on defense and chipped away at any chances the Warlocks might have generated. At the 11 minute mark the Pigeon's Kemmlein camped out in front of the Warlocks goal. Bonzi seeing an open teammate flipped a high pass to him, which Kemmlein preceded to catch with his body, drop to his feet and slap past the goalie. With a 4-2 lead Espo held the crease and the team held on for a well deserved win. |
