J. D. MATHERS NIGHT - MARCH 7, 2004
J. D. Mathers was honored by his team, the Dark Pigeons, and the
Susquehanna Sports Center Sunday, March 7, 2004, as his number
15 was raised to the rafters. A day before his 50th birthday,
Mathers graciously acknowledged the honor as he lead the Pigeons
to a 7 - 1 victory. While Mathers ended the game with an
impressive four goals and two assists, the night was a capsul of what
Mathers has meant to the Pigeons over the past three years.

Prior to signing as a Pigeon on Wednesday, January 24, 2001, the
Dark Pigeons struggled to put a competitive team on the rink. The
Pigeons were without a leader, which quickly was solved as
Mathers joined the team. It took Mathers only three games to get
his Pigeons their first career victory as they turned back the
Hurricanes 8 - 4. While the Pigeons ended the season a lowly
4 - 9 - 0, Mathers got the Pigeons on track as he taught them how
to play the game he has loved for year. The following season, the
Pigeons went on to win their first of six championships at the
Susquehanna Sports Center.

Over the past 16 sessions at the Sports Center, Mathers has
complied an impressive six scoring titles. He currently possesses or
shares 21 Pigeons' records and is on pace to claim two more by the
end of the session.

While Mathers jokes of retiring after this session, the Pigeons hope
and pray that he will return. Either way, Mathers will continue to
play, through his leadership, each time a Pigeon lace up his skates
and steps on the rink.

Thanks J. D.
